George Hurd

George Hurd is an American electro-acoustic composer based in Berlin. His work focuses on electronic music, classical composition, and the endlessly fascinating world where they intersect. Best known as being the head of his chamber music collective The Hurd Ensemble for over a decade,he has worked as a composer of both. His work as a solo electronic performer/composer is substantial and often incorporates a deconstructed sonic palette extracted from his work with classical musicians. He’s composed for and been commissioned by Grammy-winning ensemble Third Coast Percussion, been commissioned to reimagine operatic works by the Musiktheater Im Revier Gelsenkirchen, collaborated with celebrated Berlin experimental composer Hainbach, written extensively for film, podcast and dance, and performed his music across the US from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, to the cutting-edge Mutek festival. Hurd has also taught avant-garde composition for many years, focusing on electro-acoustic and electronic music. He’s released music on 7K! Records, Innova Recordings, Third Coast Records, and Foil Imprints.
